When Michael G. of Willingboro, NJ was introduced to photography in 2008 he didn’t know it would lead him to Selfie Station. He just knew he enjoyed it and that it was a lucrative side gig. Over the years it grew into a passion that opened a lot of doors for the young entrepreneur.
When he heard a radio ad for Selfie Station in 2015 he felt it was a calling. He described the opportunity and his background as a photographer as a natural fit, “It was like icing to a cake, pencil to a paper, or a smile to a photo shoot,” he says. It was picture perfect. “Their team was amazing. They specifically help you work on your station during the trial and error period. They made me feel comfortable and that won me over.”
Since then, Michael has taken his business to new heights including working with celebrities like Musiq SoulChild, Eric Benet and Jill Scott. “You have what most photographers dream of having,” he said regarding his photo booth experience.
We spoke with Michael recently to discuss his growing business:
WHATS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART SO FAR?
Michael G: My favorite part of the business is traveling to new cities and interaction with new people. It’s been amazing. It has opened a lot of opportunities once unimaginable.
HOW MANY EVENTS DID IT TAKE YOU TO SEE A RETURN?
MG: I would say it took me about 9 to 10 months to break even. I felt like it was way shorter than expected. $1,500 a month is really easy to get with this station.
HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO GENERATE BUSINESS FROM NETWORKING AT YOUR EVENTS?
MG: I have generated so much business from networking at my events. It’s definitely a word of mouth thing. Everybody is shocked and surprised with the Selfie Stations ability to interact with social media, green screen, printing, etc.
WHAT OTHER MEANS OF MARKETING HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE?
MG: Charity events because it’s always good to give back (what goes around comes around), flyers and setting up a kiosk at the mall.
HAS SELFIE STATION BEEN ABLE TO BOOK ANY EVENTS ON YOUR BEHALF?
MG: I have to say, Selfie Station’s Ms. Dulce is amazing! She has provided me with event after event after event. She is very hands on and makes sure your business thrives. She’s amazing.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE IDEAL QUALITIES OF A SELFIE STATION OWNER?
MG: You’re the life of the party! Being a Selfie Station owner develops character and personality and you become a memory to a lot of people.
WHAT IS A SURPRISE YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED ABOUT RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?
MG: I looked at my life 5yrs ago and compared it to what I’ve managed to accomplish in a year of owning my station. I’m just surprised at the amount of support. A lot of people respect the decision I’ve made and you gain a lot of positive feedback.
