You wouldn’t think a 26 year-old, full-time college student and mother of two would have time for a small business. Then again, you’ve probably never met one of Selfie Station’s newest owners, Jenna G. of Bridgeport, West Virginia. Just three months in she’s managed to grow her business rapidly and is even looking to hire an employee.
Before Selfie Station, Jenna always dreamed of working for herself. After enrolling into a Business Management program, she was still unsure what she would pursue. “I just wanted it to be unique,” she said. After months of research, she heard a radio ad for Selfie Station and it clicked. “There weren’t many photo booth rental businesses in my area so [she knew] this kind of business would be a hit,” she said. “I thought it was perfect. Photo booths are something that everyone loves because they are so much fun and a great way to make memories.”
Since then, we spoke with Jenna about her recent success she’s experienced with her Selfie Station business while taking care of a 4-month old:
WHATS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART SO FAR?
JENNA G: My favorite part about the business as far is I can make really good money in one night while having fun. This allows me to not have to work a job and be able to stay home with my kids. I love having my own business and being able to work from my house.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SELFIE STATION?
JG: I chose Selfie Station because there aren’t very many photo booth rental companies in the area I live in, which would allow my business to be unique and in high demand. I also saw how much money could be made and I could pay my photo booth off very quickly. And of course, running a photo booth is so much fun especially to do as a job.
HOW MANY EVENTS DID IT TAKE YOU TO SEE A RETURN?
JG: It took a lot less time to break off on my investment than I thought it would. It took me about 2 and a half months.
HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO GENERATE BUSINESS FROM NETWORKING AT YOUR EVENTS?
JG: Yes. Almost every event I’ve attended, I have meet someone there that ended up booking their own event with me.
WHAT OTHER MEANS OF MARKETING HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE?
JG: I do most of my advertising on Facebook. I have a business page and purchase ads a few times a month to run. I have found social media to be a very effective and cheaper way to advertise. I also have my business posted on Theknot.com. I have booked several events from that site as well. Since most of my events are weddings, I have attended a few bridal expo and set up my display at the show for all the brides to see.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE IDEAL QUALITIES OF A SELFIE STATION OWNER?
JG: I think it’s important to be friendly to guests at events. Being knowledgeable of all of the equipment is really important in case you run into an issue in the middle of an event. Obviously, any business owner should be motivated and determined to succeed.
WHAT IS A SURPRISE YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED ABOUT RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?
JG: I would say the most positive surprise I’ve encountered about running my own business so far would be how easy it is to make money while doing something I enjoy and that is fun as well. I thought running my own business would be extremely stressful but I’m actually under less stress now than I was before. Don’t get me wrong, running a business isn’t always easy but it is definitely worth it!
