Owner Spotlight – Gerrard and Rachel of Detroit Social Pix

With a background in sales and event planning, Gerrard and Rachel of Lathrup Village, Michigan knew a photo booth business would be a successful endeavor. The husband and wife duo, who both work full-time jobs, were interested in bringing a modern photo booth experience to event hosts in the Detroit area. Perhaps more importantly though, they wanted to provide an environment for their daughters to work and learn business savvy along the way. “We wanted them to gain confidence as entrepreneurs,” says Rachel.

Selfie Station has given the family the opportunity to work together and utilize their skills. They’re able to balance their business with a busy work schedule by managing the company in the evenings and weekends. The family team is now looking to expand into a second station and looking to build on their recent Top Rated ranking on a popular directory site.

We reached out to the “Detroit Social Pix” family and talked a little bit about their business:

WHATS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE PART SO FAR?

Gerrard + Rachel: Our favorite part are the client interactions. We have 5-star reviews across the board and we credit that to making the best customer experience possible. We both love to host stellar events.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SELFIE STATION?

G+R: Selfie Station was/is ahead of the market in technology and we noticed that right away. The Green Screen technology itself has given us the opportunity to really differentiate ourselves from other photo booth companies.

HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO GENERATE BUSINESS FROM NETWORKING AT YOUR EVENTS?

G+R: We are constantly able to generate referrals and networking from being open and flexible but also from putting out a great product paired with great service.

 

WHAT OTHER MEANS OF MARKETING HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE?

G+R: We have found it beneficial to “gift” our services to an entity of our choice who couldn’t budget it into their event cost. We do this at least once every quarter. This has grown our exposure into new markets. Plus we know we’re in a position to give and we find that important.

HAS SELFIE STATION BEEN ABLE TO BOOK ANY EVENTS ON YOUR BEHALF?

G+R: No not yet. There has been two instances we have been contacted but we were already booked for those dates. We’d love to keep receiving opportunities though.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE IDEAL QUALITIES OF A SELFIE STATION OWNER?

G+R: Flexible. Optimistic. Fun-Loving. Organized.

WHAT IS A SURPRISE YOU’VE ENCOUNTERED ABOUT RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?

G+R: A positive surprise is how quickly we’ve been able to grow with this small business. We’re currently thinking of expanding to a second station. And the joy of our daughters knowing they have a job already lined up for them in the summer is a huge plus!
